Why Private Sessions Are So Vital
WHY CLIENTS NEED PRIVATE SESSIONS

Pilates principles and exercises carefully and appropriately applied are very helpful for clients.
However, Pilates exercises carelessly taught can cause or even exacerbate pain in clients.

If a Pilates instructor begins to teach to an unknown body, the results can be disastrous. A high-quality instructor will observe movement patterns, assess alignment, posture, and stability and provide an exercise program for improving their client’s physical well being.

It is imperative that the client’s health history be evaluated and protected before ever entering a group scenario. In your first private Pilates session, health forms will be filled out by the client and discussed with your instructor. Any health concerns, especially pain issues, will be documented and reviewed in order to avoid harmful exercises and positioning, and to know which corrective movements and exercises to apply. Severe issues may be referred to a medical professional. After documentation and body care is addressed, your first session will move into the knowledge of Pilates basics.

Continuing private sessions will continue the Pilates basics and more actual mat work, with one-on-one instruction and development. You will be taught the essential Pilates Principles of breathing, concentration, control, centering, precision, balanced muscle development, rhythm & flow, whole body/mind movement and relaxation. You will be shown correct spinal positions such as neutral or imprinted spine, core engagement in every exercise, and how to improve mobility, balance, and flexibility.

At your instructor’s discretion, you can begin group mat sessions together, but still with that watchful eye of the instructor on your strengths and weaknesses, helping you build and achieve, and knowing how to transition and sequence you into higher level movements.

The initial financial investment in Pilates is well worth it, and after your private sessions, you can work in group mat sessions at “your level for your body.” And we do have a choice: We can invest in our physical condition and healthiness now in a happy, productive environment or we can spend money and time in an environment of doctors and hospitals and insurance companies. This is not to say none of us will experience or benefit from the later scenario, but by knowing Pilates, you will have your own “toolbox” to repair your body wherever you are…at home, on the road, or at work so the benefits are felt in everyday life.
